When I try to "Add a printer" it doesn't even show up as an option even though everything is plugged in and the printer power is on.

Hello.

Check to make sure that the USB cable is being connected directly to the computer. Avoid using any USB hubs or extension devices for the connection.

USB was plugged in correctly. Tried it on my personal laptop as well; didn't work on that one either. Gave up and bought a new Canon Pixma MG6821.
