Hi DPChristman,

To scan in black and white, please use the Advanced Mode of Scangear.

To do this, please follow these steps:

1. Click Start, select (All) Programs, Canon Utilities, MP Navigator EX and then click MP Navigator EX to open that program.

2. Point to Scan/Import and click Photos/Documents (Platen).

3. Place the document on the Platen, then select Document Type.

4. Place a checkmark in "Use the scanner driver".

5. Click the Open Scanner Driver button.

6. Click on the Advanced Mode button.

7. In the Input Settings section, change the Color Mode to Black and White.

8.

This problem is specific to Windows Fax and Scan.

When Scanning a document, the only options I am given is Color or Greyscale.

Neither captures a clear image of the document as clean B&W does. I am of course scanning a B&W document.

Currently running windows 7 Home Premium on an Acer Aspire V3-551 computer.

I know this must be something in my original install configuration but I don't know what.
