If the OFFLINE STATUS alert has been a problem for years, prior to my buying a Canon Printer, as evidenced here and all over the web, then why does my Canon printer have this same issue? My point being, why hasn't Canon fixed the problem prior to my purchase of one in 2014???????? CANON ANSWER: We understand your concerns sir.

Canon fooled me once...:) I WILL not be buying another Canon for me or my company. Garbage, and their reps aren't even awake to start the day. FANTASTIC.

Model MG5400 (as basic as it gets)

Windows or Mac?

I know I've seen automatic Windows updates knock printers into offline status, and that's not just with Canon printers. You'd have to go into Devices&Printers, right click on the printer, select 'See what's printing", click the word 'Printer' in the upper left, then UNCHECK 'use printer offline'
