I'm having the same issue with my MX450. All of the sudden, the scanner will not work and just tells me to "select area to scan", which makes no sense. And there's nothing in Canon's support documentation to address this. I

I have an MG4200 which works fine, except that when I do a preview it often reproduces only part of the scan, showing the scan area enclosed in a heavy dashed line and leaving part of the iimage outside it. There doesn't seem to be any way of altering the scan area (you'd think you could drag the boundaries, but you can't) and when the preview is repeated it will often select a different area - so you have to keep trying until it decides to include the whole image! Any ideas?

I just found recently that if you uncheck the box "Scan preview and image as separate files" the scanner then covers the whole area! Well that seems logical - not.

So, where the heck is "Scan Preview and Image as Separate Files"?
