Hi lemonr1937,

The printer uses ink from the large black ink tank if plain paper is selected in the printer driver, and if you are printing single-sided text documents. The printer will also use the large black ink tank to print if you have the grayscale printing option selected. If you have the duplex (double-sided) printing option selected, or have a paper type other than plain paper selected, the printer will utilize a combination of the color ink tanks in the unit to make the text/images on the page, even if the grayscale option is selected, and the text in the document is black. When printing certain PDF files and webpages, the color ink tanks may be used as well.

The machine feeds photo paper from the upper cassette automatically if you select a page size such as 4" x 6" (10 x 15 cm) or 5" x 7" (13 x 18 cm) in the print settings at the operation panel or the printer driver. The machine feeds paper from the lower cassette automatically if you select a page size such as A4, B5, A5, Letter, or envelopes in the print settings at the operation panel or the printer driver.

we i say upper casette i mean the one one top machine mor whats it for? ron have changed other setting will see what happens...thanks ron
