Ink 241XL not recognized by MG3150

I have an MG3150 all-in-one printer, which I brought from Europe. It needs the '541' series of ink cartridges -- which I cannot buy at my local Staples store. I strongly suspect that the MG3150 is identical to the U.S. model MG 3120. That one takes '241' type ink cartridges, which look absolutely identical to the 541 series.

Unfortunately, the printer throws an error message "ink cartridge cannot be recognized"

--> how am I going to replace my ink cartridges here in the U.S. ?

Canon inks and printers are region specific, so a printer purchased overseas will only use inks from the country where it was purchased from; inks purchased for the same (or similiar) model printer in the United States or another country/region will not work in the unit.
