    <description>&lt;DIV&gt;Patrice,&lt;/DIV&gt;&lt;DIV&gt;Thanks for the reply and instructions. These are the ones I was looking at but was not sure if they would work for my 4150. I do have a concern about doing the selective start up and disabling all the services ! If this does not work will I be able to recover and restart all the services ? This seems like a drastic means to correct the problem but I am more concerned with creating more issues for the PC than solving the scanner issue !&lt;/DIV&gt;</description>

      <title>MF 4150 Scanner Problem</title>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;I have&amp;nbsp; a MF 4150 and trying to get it working with new PC running Win 8.1.&amp;nbsp; I have installed updated Win&amp;nbsp; 8/8.1 drivers and toolbox as shown in another post on the forum. All functions will work but when I tiurn off the MFP and turn it back on the scan function will not work. I have contacted Canon support 3 times with no luck. First time we worked through setup and checked 3 services to confirm they were they were running in auto.These were WIA, RPC Locator and Shell Hardware Detection. Canon support said they do not know why there is a problem and he would need some time to research this. I called back 1 wk later when he did not reply to me and no progress and he hinted that there were also issues with new products running Win 8.1. They need more time and believe it may be Microsoft issue which needs to be fixed. Again he will contact me. I have uninstalled and reinstalled software, changed USB cable twice and still same issue. &amp;nbsp;After a few days of not using scan function&amp;nbsp;I tried scanning and it worked but when I turn MFP off and then on&amp;nbsp;the toolbox hangs when trying to scan. The printer has always worked throuhout this. I even went back to old PCs running XP and one running Vista and all function work.&amp;nbsp; I have searched this forum and find some other similar issues but the install gets more complicated and I am concerned with what was done to make it possibly work correctly ? It was used on some different products and wonder if it will&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;work with this one&amp;nbsp;. Any help would be appreciated if others we able to overcome this problem.&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;Hi T34.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I know this scanning issue is frustrating and I will be glad to assist you.&amp;nbsp; First, I recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and software in 'Selective Startup Mode'.&amp;nbsp; Please follow the instructions below to peform these steps:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;To place you computer in a Selective Start Up, please follow these steps:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;1.&amp;nbsp; Press the Windows key and 'x'.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;2.&amp;nbsp; Select 'Run'.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;3.&amp;nbsp; In the Run window type: Msconfig.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;4.&amp;nbsp; Select OK.&amp;nbsp; If the UAC window opens, type in your password and select OK.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;5.&amp;nbsp; In the System Properties screen, choose 'Selective Start Up'.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;6.&amp;nbsp; Uncheck the box labeled 'Load Start Up Items'.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;7.&amp;nbsp; Click Apply.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;8.&amp;nbsp; Under the Services Tab, click on 'Hide all Microsoft Services' at the bottom of the window just above the OK button.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;9.&amp;nbsp; Click 'Disable All'.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;10.&amp;nbsp; Click Apply.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;11.&amp;nbsp; Click Close.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;12.&amp;nbsp; Restart the computer.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Next, to uninstall the drivers for your MF4150, please follow these steps: (If certain items are not listed or found, move on to the next step.)&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;1.&amp;nbsp; Unplug the USB cable from the printer.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;***Please leave the USB cable disconnected until you have uninstalled and completely reinstalled the drivers.&amp;nbsp; Connecting the printer before going through the "Setup Wizard" may cause the Windows operating system to install a generic driver for the printer.***&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;2.&amp;nbsp; Press the Windows key and 'x'.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;3.&amp;nbsp; Select 'Control Panel'.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;4.&amp;nbsp; Select Devices and Printers.&amp;nbsp; The Devices and Printers window opens.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;5.&amp;nbsp; In the Devices and Printers window, right click on the&amp;nbsp;MF4100 Series and select 'Remove' to delete the printer.&amp;nbsp; Delete all of the icons for the MF4150.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;6.&amp;nbsp; Close the Devices and Printers window then press the Windows key and 'x'.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;7.&amp;nbsp; Select 'Control Panel'.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;8.&amp;nbsp; Select 'Programs and Features'.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;9.&amp;nbsp; Double click on driver to uninstall.&amp;nbsp; Follow the on screen prompts.&amp;nbsp; Repeat to uninstall the MF Tool box.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;10.&amp;nbsp; Restart you computer.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;11. Leaving the USB cable disconnected,&amp;nbsp;please download the driver from the Canon website using the following link: &lt;A rel="nofollow" href="http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer" target="_blank"&gt;http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer&lt;/A&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;12. The site will automatically detect your operating system.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;13.&amp;nbsp; Next, select &lt;STRONG&gt;[Drivers]&lt;/STRONG&gt; and the file &lt;STRONG&gt;[Windows 64bit] imageCLASS MF4150 MFDrivers (UFR II / FAX / ScanGear).&lt;/STRONG&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;14.&amp;nbsp; Click "I Agree&amp;nbsp;- Begin Download".&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;15.&amp;nbsp; Save the file to your computer.&amp;nbsp; Once the download is complete, click "Run".&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;16.&amp;nbsp; Click "I Decline - Go Back" on the Canon site and select &lt;STRONG&gt;[Software] &lt;/STRONG&gt;and the file &lt;STRONG&gt;[Windows 32bit &amp;amp; 64bit] Tool Box Ver.4.9.1.1.mf16&lt;/STRONG&gt;.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;17.&amp;nbsp; Save the file to your computer.&amp;nbsp; Once the download is complete, click "Run".&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;18.&amp;nbsp; Close the Canon window and go to the location on the computer where the files are saved, usually [Downloads].&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;19.&amp;nbsp; You will see two icons with the name &lt;STRONG&gt;MF4150_MFDrivers_W64_us_EN_2.exe&lt;/STRONG&gt;.&amp;nbsp; Double click on the yellow folder icon.&amp;nbsp; In the folder you will see two files with the name "Setup".&amp;nbsp; Double click on the "Setup" that has the type [Application].&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;20.&amp;nbsp; The "MF Drivers Setup Wizard" will open.&amp;nbsp; Please proceed through the setup and restart the computer.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;21.&amp;nbsp; After the computer restarts, please connect the USB cable to the computer and allow the computer to finish the installation process.&amp;nbsp; Once the printer is listed in [Devices and Printers], right-click on the icon&amp;nbsp;and select it as the default printer.&amp;nbsp; Please open a document on the computer and print it out.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Please follow steps 19 and 20 to install the Canon MF Toolbox 4.9 software.&amp;nbsp; Once the software is installed, please follow the steps below to complete a scan:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;1.&amp;nbsp; Press the [SCAN] button on the control panel of the printer and place a document in the feeder.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;2.&amp;nbsp; On the computer, open the MF Toolbox program.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;3.&amp;nbsp; Select the [PDF] scan function.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;4.&amp;nbsp; Click the green [Start] button in the PDF window.&amp;nbsp; The scan should begin.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;After you successfully scan a document, please follow these steps to return your computer to Normal Startup:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;1.&amp;nbsp; Press the Windows key and 'x'.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;2.&amp;nbsp; Select 'Run'.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;3.&amp;nbsp; In the Run window type: Msconfig&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;4.&amp;nbsp; Select OK.&amp;nbsp; If the UAC window opens, type in your password and select OK.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;5.&amp;nbsp; In the System Properties screen, choose 'Normal Start Up'.&amp;nbsp; The Services tab automatically returns to the previous settings.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;6.&amp;nbsp; Click Apply.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;7.&amp;nbsp; Click Close.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;8.&amp;nbsp; Restart the computer.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;(Continued Below)&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;Hi Patrice,&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; I followed the instructions as you wrote them but did experience an issue with uninstalling the toolbox while running in Selective Start Up mode. The unistall program/wizard just hung up and could not complete the process. I took a chance at placing the PC back in Normal Start Up mode and was able to successfully complete the toolbox uninstall. I then proceeded to install the Win 8.1 drivers and toolbox as instructed.&amp;nbsp; I was able to print a stored document and then perform scan as well. I thought I was home free but when i tried to do another scan the toolbox hung up ! When I clicked on the red X to stop the toolbox and do a retry of the scan the message was " cannot communicate with scanner " cable may be disconnected ! So I am at&amp;nbsp; a loss for what happened except to ask if the unsuccessful attempt to uninstall the toolbox in Selective Start Up mode is the cause ?&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;This worked for me on my MF 4150. Much simpler than the previous method!&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I never did see the last line steps on my computer, though.       <description>Glad it worked...the last steps IMO have to do with your OS. I have Win 8.1 64 bit.&lt;BR /&gt;Still waiting for Canon to update driver.</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;Hi Patrice - This worked great for me.&amp;nbsp; I just loaded Win 10 (free Home) and it worked like a charm. I had tried all the uninstalling and reinstalling, new download from Cannon, but was the same files as I had already for Win 7, but Toolbox may be a bit different and updated.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Anyway, if anyone is interested, this is an easy, quick fix for the Wih 10 will print but won't scan problem and thank you loads for your info.&amp;nbsp; Let people know this works on Win 10 too.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I would venture to guess this would be all that needs doing without downloading any new Canon files from the Win 7 version, but if they want a newer Toolbox interface, that would need to be downloaded.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; - Cheri -&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;</description>
