My grandma was removing a paper jam from near the ink cartridges in her MX892 multifunction printer and caused some sort of damage. The printer now makes a loud "clack"-type noise when turned on and displays an error code. (The error code changed after I slid over the cartridge unit and turned the printer back on.)

I found a thin (less than 1/4-inch-wide) transparent plastic strip lying loose in that area. Attached to one end of the strip is a small spring. Shining a light in the printer, I might have found where the ends of this strip attach. I ran it behind the ink cartridges and used tweezers to attach each end to what I think might be the attachment points, closed the printer, and turned it on again, but it just made a clack again and displayed an error message, and when I opened it the strip was lying there loose again. I wasn't sure if there is something on the back of the cartridge unit that I should pass the strip through. (I have no idea how the strip was attached before, or what its purpose is.)

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to diagnose and/or fix this type of problem? I'm not sure if there is any other damage besides the strip being unattached. The unit in which the cartridges sit is loose (I can wiggle it around), but it is still attached. Maybe that is normal; I don't know.

Even just a link to some instructions for how to disassemble the printer would be extremely helpful so that I can get a better look at things in there.

I appreciate your insights! Thank you.
