topic Pixma IP4200 Standard Print Quality Smudging, High Quality OK in Desktop Inkjet Printers

My trusty and much-loved IP4200 has suddenly started playing up.

On "Standard" quality prints, the black characters are smudged (with a "shadow" print about half a character above the main character) whilst colour is OK and all characters are OK when I set it to "High" quality. Although black characters do appear to be more blue than black even on High quality prints.

Any ideas, please?

I have tried deep cleaning the nozzles but when I try to do a head alignment I get an error stating that the nozzles may be blocked. I have also tried changing each of the black cartridges to no avail.
