topic MF 4150 - Funny Noise, Won't Print in Desktop Inkjet Printers

I have a MF 4150 Canon printer and it has worked really well (5+ relatively pain-free years until today).

The problem is that it now starts to pull the paper to print, but then emits a loud "grinding"-type noise (that I hadn't heard before) and gets a paper jam before anything gets printed. Has anyone experienced this before and if they have, is there a solution other than getting a new printer ?
