Good answer, but .... if I want to do the same and buy another Canon printer, I'd prefer to get the latest model of the above listed printers. However I can't find a list online anywhere that puts a chronological listing of when the printers were made. Can you help me find the NEWEST of the above?

Did you ever get an answer? I suspect you are in the same position - your printer died but you have WAY too much ink and you'd like to replace with a newer model that uses same ink? Did you find a solution? Thanks

Yeah, I'm in the same situation. I was told the TR8520 could use XL 251 ink. However, it calls for 281. The cartridges fit, but the printer doesn't recognize them. If there is a way to still get it to print, even though it can't detect the ink levels, I'd like to know. It doesn't seem to work for me.

Ended up scrapping everything and starting again. I suspect this is done on purpose to make Canon more money.

I have the same issue

Printer is a 7520

Previously had 281 cartridges

Tried to install brand new 251 cartridges

Keep getting the 1660 error message.

Have tried several times to remove and install again

HELP!!!!

The PIXMA MG7520 is only comptible with the following ink tanks:

CLI-251BK
CLI-251GY
CLI-251Y
PGI-250PGBK
CLI-251C
CLI-251M

The CLI-281 ink tanks are not compatible.

We are looking to buy a new Canon printer (our MG7520 has died) and have on hand a number of new CLI-251XL and PGI-250XL ink cartridges, which we would prefer not to waste. What printers in Canon's current line-up use CLI-251XL and PGI-250XL ink cartridges? We would prefer to stick with Canon but may have to look further afield if I we have to start over again.

You are eligible for Canon's Upgrade Program. This is for out-of-warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service, or for some reason are incompatible with a new or upgraded system. This option allows you a one-time opportunity to purchase a replacement product, discounted from the list price.

I'm having the same issue right now. My 7520 just started having an error code 1410. I have replaced the ink cartridge (yes with a Canon cartridge) and have taken out and cleaned the ink head...). I have ink that I want to use, but have not found a compatible printer. Would replace the ink head, if I knew that that would solve the problem...(but they cost about the same as I paid for the printer a few years back....)

Any solutions??

You probably already found a solution but if it were me I would take the chip off of the ink cartridges that came with the printer and put them on your 251 cartridges. You'll have to do this every time you switch them out so I'm curious if it will work. Fyi, I'm also in the same situation after buying two print heads that did not work.
