MX340 won't recognize black ink cartridge code U059

I put new canon 210xl black cartridge in and printer (Canon Pixma MX340 bought in Aug 2010) & would not recognize it and I cleaned contacts on cartridge and printer to no avail. I took cartridge back to store and swapped for another cartridge of same type and still get code U059. I have tried to delete code from printer and also disable that function and not sure if I ever succeeded. Any ideas. Thanks
