Hello rcollier6.

Please try the following steps to connect the unit to your Wi-Fi router:

1. Press the Setup button on the printer.

2. Use the arrow keys to select Drive Settings and press OK.

3. Select LAN Settings and press OK.

4. Choose Wireless LAN Setup and press OK.

5. If a WPS prompt appears, press the STOP button.

6. Select Standard Setup and press OK.

7. Select your Access Point and press OK. When entering the passphrase, use the Tone or Star (*) key to change character modes.

Once this has been done, insert the CD for the unit into your Windows or Mac OSX computer and perform the installation.

When I try to connect this way, the printer is still not able to find the connection. Any other suggestions?

sorry for the highjack

Is there a way to to connect a Windows 8.1 x64 machine to the MX452 without installing any special drivers and or program from Canaon? Trying to keep the install programs as low as possible.

I'm able to install the printer bt clicking find, add printer and following the promts, it gives me a wifi printer no problem, but as soon as I plug in the USB cable, it install me a new printer. Delete it, and as soon as I plug in the USB cable again, same thing... new printer. I worked well yesterday, but foolish me, deleted the printer and now, can't seem to make it work.

So, to sum it up.... trying to install the printer without the need to install Canon software, have one printer (yet, shows me printer and fax??) have it work but USB and WIFI without having two different printers.

It's driving me nuts... thx to all

This worked for me but as soon as I keyed in the password the connection was reset and I was good to go! Now I keep the rounter password handy by the printer!

I tryed the way you suggested and I have the CD drive content downloaded in my Mac, but I still can not use the wireless priting. Would you please offer me a solution to that? Is there any limitation of the distance where I can use the wireless priting? Hope you could answer my questions. Thank you.

Same issue.

I downloaded the driver again. Installed, restarted the mac and the printer.

Still shows Printer not connected. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I'm just trying to connect an MX 452 to my router. When it asks
for the password, how did you get capitals and numbers from the keyboard? Sorry for such a simple=minded question.

I have tried every method suggested, and I still cannot get the printer connected to WiFi. All the readings on the printer say it is connected, but the computer doesn.t recognize it. The Device and Printer section in Windows shows the printer, but only the USB connected one. Do I need to add a wireless printer? If so, how?

To everybody struggling, I would like to clear this up:

- MX452 doesn't have an ethernet (wired) port

- WPS is EXTREMELY insecure and can be bruteforced in less than 10 hours. I don't recommend to anybody using WPS

This leaves 2 options:

- use a USB cable for the printer

- set up the printer over normal wireless

However, to set up the printer over normal wireless (not the insecure WPS), you need to install Canon's software, connect the printer and configure it for EACH computer you want to access the printer wirelessly from. You get what you pay for... Canon for $80 retail, what do you expect...

How to get Windows 8.1 to print to MX452 wirelessly (not WPS):

1. Connect printer to computer via USB cable

2. Install Canon software

3. Set up the printer for wireless printing in the wizard

Problems:

- you most likely will end up with 2 printers: 1 for USB 1 for wireless inside Windows. Delete the one for USB

- with Windows 8 and 8.1, when the printer goes into "sleep", I have to restart it completely, or it will not print anything in the queue

I resolved the problem with the wifi setup for the MX452; I purchased a new router that is Windows 8 compliant. After setting up the new Netgear WNDR3700v4 router, all my computers connect to the printer wirelessly with no problems. My old Netgear WNDR2000 router did not have firmware updates for Windows 8 so my computers could not communicate with the printer wirelessly.

Michael, after numerous tries at setting up a wi-fi connection to our computers at home following the horrendous directions that came with the printer, I finally came across your post here and succeeded. Thank you for your help. But the technical writers at Canon need to figure out a way to get that simple point across in the user guides.
