Pixma MX490 won't print

Black cartridge is over 1/2 full but will not print. It is a newer XL cartridge.

The color cartridge will print, its about the same level, and it is the original one that

came with the printer about 3 years ago.

I haven't used the printer that much since I changed the black cartridge about a year ago.

Why is this happening?

The cartridge could be dried shut. Take it out and wipe with a wet paper towel to clear the dried toner off the connectors. This will be messy! Wipe dry, then reinsert and try again. Hope that helps!

Cleanings performed. No good. Seems that i need new ink cartridges.
