topic Canon Pixma MG 3550 won't start up in Desktop Inkjet Printers

When I plug in my printer the 4x6 photo paper light lights up and if I press the power button the light next to it lights up as well. However, there's no other reaction at all. The rest of the lights don't come on, the cartridges don't slide out (making them fairly inaccessible) and neither my roommates nor I can connect to the printer in any way.

I've already attempted unplugging it entirely and removing the power-supply unit before reassembling it, but nothing changed. I also tried holding the stop or the power button for a few seconds to dismiss any possible error messages, but again to no avail. Any ideas that might help?
