MX870 Printing Blotchy

So my MX870 has done this pretty much since I got it. I moved 4 years ago and due to the issue I wasn't in a rush to hook it up. I finally did and the issue is much worse than before, as one could expect.

Question is, what can I do to remedy this?

Difficult to diagnose based on the limited information your provided. Has been doing it since it was new.. has now gotten worse... what is it?

Inks, printhead, lack of use, lack of regular maintenance? Lots of possibilities. Have you performed any troubleshooting steps?
