Canon MX870 - Trying to print from the computer in grayscale

Canon Community,

I am going through way to much ink, but can not seem to change the default printer settings to "grayscale". It seems there are multiple change spots - dial on the printer, system preferences software, and then within each application.

Where do I change to grayscale and how. I see it as an option in a preset, but can not modifiy it, the screen is a view only screen, no editting can occur.

Your printer will use all the inks to print grayscale.
