Hi CZ,

The only method we have for disabling the ink level detection function of the printer is pressing and holding down the Resume/Cancel button on the printer for at least 5 seconds, then releasing it. This should disable the low/out of ink warnings until the ink is replaced. Please note, you will need to do this procedure for each ink tank that is displaying a low/out of ink warning. Once the inks are replaced with Canon geunine ink tanks, the ink level detection function of the printer will be re-enabled.

Since you plan on using mainly black ink in the printer, you may also want to consider adjusting the settings in the printer driver to print in grayscale mode. This will utilize the large black ink tank in the printer to print the text on the page, as long as you are printing single-sided documents on plain paper. If you would like instruction for setting this item on your computer, please reply with what operating system you have (version of Windows or Mac OS X).

Hope this helps!

Way to prevent "low ink" error for color cartridges?

At work we have 2 Pixma iP4900 printers , the color cartridages are out of ink and moving forward they will only be used to print black and white. However, whenever we print we get an "out of ink" warning.

These are used in front of customers and it is distruptive to have to constantly "override" with the resume button. Is there a setting/configuration that can be made to turn off the ink level check in the color slots? Or another way to prevent this error and just have the document print?

Thanks Ramona - One follow-up question - These printers are often turned off when not in use. Will the override of pressing "Resume/Cancel" be "remembered or will the step need to be redone each time it is powered on? Thanks!

Hello.

You may have to repeat the process again once the printer has been powered off and on. The message may periodically appear until the empty inks are replaced.

This didn't answer your question or issue?
