This printer was previously connected to our old apple, but now that we've upgraded and have the latest software (Catalina 10.15.7), I can see the printer on the network, but when trying to add, the message is "Software for this printer isn't available from Apple. Contact the printer's support manufacturer for the latest software."

Of course, when looking at Canon's website for the ip4600, the only software available is optional. When the printer was originaly bought, it came with a CD, but of course, the new macs do not have a CD-ROM drive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

Greetings,

The IP4600 is about 11+ yrs old and is no longer supported under MAC OS.

You might get it to work, but with limited function.

The CD it came with would contain software and drivers for the currently availble operting systems of the time, not something that would allow you to use the printer now. Its best to grab drivers from the manufacturers support site. A CD is typically outdated by the time you get it home.

CD's were bundled with hardware previously because the internet was slower and it took longer to download larger files. Now, install CDs are just a wasted expense, that contain older installation files.

It's probably time for a new printer, one that will work with your more modern OS and laptop.
