topic W7 laptop will not install software for MX420. W8 laptop unreliable. in Desktop Inkjet Printers

We have 2 printers - an MX 340 and MX 420, both wirelessly networked and 3 laptops (2 x w7, 1 x W8). The MX 340 works properly with all laptops.

The MX 420 does not. It has installed once successfully on one laptop with Windows 7.

It appeared to install successfully on the one with Windows 8. However, printing on the MX 420 with Windows 8 is very unreliable - sometimes stalling and sometimes printing multiple copies of the first few pages of a document.

On the other W7 laptop the provided software (both from CD-ROM and downloaded) does not install properly and it does not find the printer. Windows itself successfully found and installed the printer driver, so I can print from MS Office, Acrobat, etc. BUT - I cannot get Canon Navigator or any of its tools working, including scanning.
