3-shot HDR bracket: Which one do I load first into DPP4?

Let's say I'm doing a 3-shot HDR bracket. One regular exposure, one underexposed, and one overexposed. When I go into DPP4 ( for example ), does it matter which of the three is loaded first? Is there a particular order I should use?

No. Just select the 3 images, pull down the Tools menu, and select the HDR compositing tool. No need to place them in any order. I'm not sure you can, but I've never tried 🙂

Thanks for your help. Usually, I select the frames in the order in which they are taken, i.e. middle, then under, then over, but I thought I had read somewhere that you should start with your darkest shot first. So, I started digging around, and sure enough, here's what I ran across:

Useful tips for merging RAW frames to an HDR file in Capture One:

1. Select three frames for the HDR merge. If you have more than three frames to pick from, then pick:

Darkest frame: select the darkest frame for the merge as the brightest frame without overexposed highlights. See the example below.

Middle frame: choose the best overall exposed frame as the middle frame.

Brightest frame: choose the one that best shows bright shadow details.

Thanks.

Without explaining why, from the display shown by Canon, they also follow the order recommended by the other two examples I provided: darkest>middle>lightest.

I think that's the order I'll follow from now on.

I just throw them in the pot and let them cook. I guess when I select, they are in the right order "as taken", which is 0,-,+, and the default for my R5II. I have 2 other order options in camera, but leave it at default. I always get the results I want, so haven't given order a thought. As mentioned, I select before opening the tool and sometimes use images from different sets with different spreads. I typically use 5 or 7 shots and may take 3 sets with different spreads. Since DPP only allows 3 brackets, I experiment 3 at a time.
