The Rebel T5 should connect to your computer as is. Especially if you have a PC if you have a Mac it might present a problem but it is the Mac not the Rebel. An SD card reader is always a good idea, they aren't expensive.

If you need the Canon apps make sure you get the ones correct for your OS.
