Canon software and Android PC's?

Any hint from Canon that their software like EOS Utility and DPP4 will be made compatible with Android PC's ?

Hello,
It would be great to see Canon expand support to Android-based PCs, especially as those devices are becoming more capable. EOS Utility and DPP4 are important parts of the Canon workflow, so broader compatibility would make things much easier for photographers. Hopefully Canon is listening and has something planned for the future.

I have both an Android-based phone and tablet. The idea of an Android PC has me intrigued to say the least. If Canon could get EOS Utlity and DPP4 running on that platform, I would seriously consider migrating from Microsoft.

I have long wished that Canon would port DPP over to Linux. And DPP is LONG overdue for a clean sheet rebuild so this would be an excellent time to clean it up AND port it to other operating systems. But I am NOT holding my breath on this one. I bought a Canon 1D Mark II back in 2005 and started using DPP and 21 years later it still has the same "memory leak" issue it had when I first used it and after an hour or so of processing the memory consumed by DPP grows into the 8 to 10 GB range. With 256 GB of memory per CPU, the workstation never comes close to running out of available RAM with DPP however the program just becomes sluggish as it grows in memory use and I have to exit and restart every 60 to 90 minutes during long editing sessions (I often shoot one to two thousand images at a sports event with a pair of 1DX III bodies). Once restarted, it is fast again until it gains too much weight.

I use a pair of HP dual CPU workstations and both came from HP with both Linux and Windows installed but they spend the great majority of their time in Linux which is so much faster and more stable than Windows without the overhead of Microsoft slop. But DPP requires me to boot into Windows; running it under a compatibility box in Linux slows it enough that it negates the advantage of using a very fast dual CPU workstation.

Canon would not even need to invent new portability code. Gimp is an open source example that runs well on macOS, Windows, and Linux. The gtk library could be used.

I have not tried it yet, but have considered trying https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/tutorials/gui-apps on an HP workstation that came with Windows but only gets booted into Windows a few times per year.

I can run Windows 10 under Debian Linux using qemu. I have a portable license for Windows 10 that is not tied to particular hardware. DPP 4 seems to run better in the Windows virtual machine than when Windows is running on hardware.

What is the CPU in Android computers? If it's an ARM or something else besides Intel/AMD, it's the same situation that people are having with ARM-equipped Windows machines now.

Will Canon ever fully support non-Intel/AMD computers? Who knows.

It looks like the newer Android PC's are moving to the ARM architecture.

"Under the hood, the new Android PC will be powered by Snapdragon X Elite chips from Qualcomm. These are built on ARM architecture..."

Well, since Canon isn't FULLY supporting their printers on ARMs with Windows 11, you'll hold your breath a long time for Android on ARMs, I'd imagine.

Apple has switched to Arm. When writing in a high level language, it is not that difficult to switch chip architectures if the compilers are mature enough in their support.

Supporting Android instead of Linux is more difficult because Android is oriented toward touch screens instead of keyboard and mouse. Android uses a Linux kernel, but the user interface is very different.

One of the biggest problems with DPP now is the caching code which was written for an earlier time when computers had less RAM.
