I made another attempt to prompt the free version of Anthropic Claude AI to write a program. Teaching Claude to write a program seems to me more tedious than teaching a young engineer who has just completed college.

The chat with my prompts and the answers by Claude is at https://www.rsok.com/~jrm/rggb2dng/ with source code and source and binary software packages to install on Debian Linux. Both Claude and I made mistakes, but in the end my limited testing seems to show that the program works. Use at your own risk.

The program might seem pointless unless one wanted to manipulate the individual color channels of a Bayer array raw photo and then recombine them to make a new camera raw file to be processed with software like rawtherapee.

One of the example programs included in the libraw source code is able to produce 4 files suitable for input to this program.
~/src/libraw2021dec18/LibRaw-master/bin/4channels -A -g IMG_1234.CR3

( Octaveraw https://github.com/horshack-dpreview/OctaveRawTools does something similar and gave me the idea. )

The program is archived at: https://web.archive.org/web/20260321010542/https://www.rsok.com/~jrm/rggb2dng/index.html

#AIProgramming #Claude #octaveraw #photography #chat #Debian #Linux
