EOS Rebel SL3 has firmware 1.0.5, site only has 1.0.3; lens firmware needed, too?

I just bought a used Canon SL3, and I looked at the firmware it says "1.0.5" for the camera but on the website I can only find "1.0.3", how come? I'm also wondering if my lens needs a firmware update it's "1.0.1", I tried searching for it but I couldn't find anything, either I'm not searching hard enough or there is no update. Help would be appreciated, thanks.

Yeah, I found that but I was curious about my camera firmware saying "1.0.5" when the firmware on the website is "1.0.3".

It has happened before that Canon released newer firmware bundled with the camera.

Sometimes they have regional firmware updates to fix minor typos in foreign languages, I think.

As far as the lens, if it is not giving you trouble, don't update it. Read the description and see if it applies to you, it might only apply to RF cameras through an adapter or something.

Kiwislicer,

When I bought my camera it was had a "newer" version of the firmware vs. what Canon listed as the latest firmware download on their website. Here is Google AI's explanation and it makes sense:

When Canon manufactures a new batch of cameras, they often pre-load them with a newer firmware version that includes minor bug fixes or support for newer components (like a different screen or sensor revision)." I take it mean that the firmware you have on your camera contains tweaks and bug fixes that are minor and not significant enough to update the firmware version listed on Canon's website.

My personal experience validates's Google's AI advice: "As long as your camera is functioning correctly, there is no need to worry. You cannot "downgrade" to the lower version on the website, and you generally wouldn't want to, as your current version is technically more advanced."

Good luck!
