I believe that the 5D2 used the EOS Utility 2, which was designed to integrate with DPP3.

The EOS Utility is currently EOS Utility 4, which is designed to integrate with DPP4.

Connect canon 5D MII with mac book pro via Digital Photo Professional 4

I am trying to connect a Canon 5D Mark II to a MacBook Pro running macOS Monterey 12.7.6, but I am unable to establish a connection for remote shooting.

I have installed Digital Photo Professional 4.18.1 for macOS, which Canon lists as the recommended version for use with macOS Monterey. However, when the camera is connected via USB and I attempt to initiate Remote Shooting from within DPP, the application returns the following error message: “A compatible version of EOS Utility is not installed.”

The camera firmware is fully up to date, and the camera is otherwise functioning normally, which suggests the issue is not hardware- or firmware-related.

Is this likely a compatibility issue between EOS Utility and macOS Monterey for the Canon 5D Mark II, or am I missing a required configuration or legacy component?

Alvaromb,

As I understand it, you have to download and install the EOS Utility software first.

You load the software to establish a connection between the camera and your computer first, and then open up your DPP4 software to do your remote shooting.

I went to the Canon Support page for the 5D MarkII and didn't see the EOS Utility software listed, so perhaps you might want to give them a call to see what, if any, EOS Utility software might be compatible with your Mac Monterey.

If you just want to do remote shooting, I personally use an app called Camera Connect and Control and the 5D MarkII is listed as one of the supported cameras.

Canon's DPP and EOS Utility are different programs and can be downloaded/installed separately. It's EOS Utility you need for downloading images and tethering.

I don't know if this works with your OS but it's the last 5DII version for Mac, sometimes the newest version also works.

Hi, thanks for the feedback.

It seems that there is no compatible version of EOS Utility available for macOS Monterey, or at least none that I can find. When I try to download it from Canon’s website, I get the message: “This software is not supported with the operating system selected and is not available for download.”

It’s surprising that Canon hasn’t updated EOS Utility to support newer macOS versions, especially since the most recent compatible release appears to date back to 2019 for macOS Mojave. It’s quite frustrating.

Thanks,

Alvaro
