YouTube, websites, forums etc. unfortunately canon won’t admit there is anything wrong.. strange eh?

EOS Utility 3 is Terrible

This has got to be one of the worst pieces of software ever. Come on, Canon! Why can't you get this right? Why is this so difficult for you? Why do I keep getting this error message every time I try to connect my R6 to my M1 MacBook Pro using EOS Utility 3? It is so frustrating!

Have you tried doing this when your MacBook is plugged in and not less than 20% battery?

When the power is critical, macOS likes to be stingy with where it allocates power, and USB is often one of the first things it cuts. Another issue that could be preventing your camera from connecting is the type of cable you're using. Believe it or not, there are several kinds of USB C cables that don't all do the same things. Some are power only, others transfer data very slowly, some are "normal," and others are Thunderbolt-rated. You don't need a Thunderbolt-rated cable, but you need a decent one that transfers data and power.

If you have tried a different, quality cable, and your MacBook is plugged in, and you're still having problems, give our team a call so they can troubleshoot with you. Support is at 800-OK-CANON (800-652-2666), Monday through Friday.

What USB-c cable is recommended? Is there a reasonably priced one on Amazon? The cables on that canon sells are way overpriced. Thanks.

I’ve had the same issues for a while now. I made a complaint with canon and was just fed generic useless emails and nothing worked. They won’t accept their software is buggy and doesn’t work Properly, instead they try blaming the user and default to gaslighting. I’ve been back and forth countless times and I’m finally done with them. I’ll be getting rid of my kit and I’ll never use these again. Shame really as they were my favourite for over 27 years.
I’ve just had enough. Great cameras but they are Totally inept when it comes to this software.

Is accessory connection configured properly?

Do you have any background apps running that might gather photos, like Drop Box?

Does your camera show up when you select Image Capture?

Sometimes the software works instantly no matter what else is running. Other time even if it's the only software open I still get the error msg:

Communication with the camera via USB cannot be established. Start EOS Utility after closing all the apps that communicate with the camera, and then turn on the camera again.
It's not just the latest OS that is an issue - this has been going on since I had my first Canon EOS DSLR 20 years ago. I've updated to the latest version of EOS Utility and it's still a problem child.
You have to shut down the computer and restart and then it still might not work.
I have gone to using Image Transfer (yes that was also set to default to Canon EOS Utility) which transfers images quickly and reliably. The Canon software is just a waste of disk space - there has to be an update/ bug fix that Canon could find.
