Driver needed for 20-year-old EOS Digital Rebel

Hi there. I have an old Cannon Digital Rebel that I am trying to find a driver for my computer. I can not find anything compatible to download to my computer for this camera. I haven't used my camera in about 20 years so the old computer I had stuff on is long gone. I am just needing to find something to be able to download my pictures to my laptop to be able to edit them. Is there anyone out there that can help an older person out with this new technology? I appreciate any help on this! #EOS Digital rebel

If macOS or Linux, free software such as rawtherapee, gimp, imagemagick, darktable, and the free to download Canon DPP will work. Since I have retired and no longer have an employer who requires Windows, I do not do Windows.

A card reader will enable transfer of any photos from camera to computer. If one is built into the laptop, use that. If not, then some card readers with a USB cable are not very expensive.

If macOS, then Apple photos.app works well and Image Capture will transfer photos from camera to computer over USB cable. Image capture transfers files over USB cable on macOS, gphoto2 on Linux, and on Windows maybe file explorer but I have not tried this because I no longer do Windows.

I use Gimp and exiftool free software on both macOS and Linux. I use rawtherapee, hugin, gimp, graphicsmagick, and exiftool free software on Linux. Long ago, I used gimp free software on Windows.

I am also very old, but was a software engineer before I retired and subscribed to IEEE Computer Graphics and ACM Sigraph journals.

I suggest using Canon DPP free to download software and other free software.

A card reader is more convenient than using a USB cable.

You will certainly need to use a card reader to access the images on the camera card. Your camera uses CompactFlash cards, and the readers for those are still readily available. Please not CompactFlash readers are different to CFexpress readers. Once you copy the images from the card you can use any of the software John mentioned, the latest Canon DPP will work with the RAW files from your camera, or just about any program will handle the JPGs.

Since DPP4 is free there is no good reason to not get it and learn to use it. It is a very capable app for free.

If you have an older Mac you may have a USB port. I know new Mac's don't have ports but if yours has one all you need is DPP4 and a proper USB cable.
