Hi all,

Is there any way that I can view a true RAW capture in DPP? I shoot at JPG and RAW at the same time (2 different cards). When I view the RAW version it looks the same as the JPG version. I noticed that the RAW files are being displayed with the JPG adjustments.

Thanks!

When you view a RAW file you are actually viewing a JPG embedded within the metadata. The camera uses the settings that created the JPG file to generate the image embedded within the RAW file.

Yes I understand that but why can't I see a RAW file image untouched by the JPG settings? I have been told to shoot RAW and JPG at the same time. It appears that I need to undo all of the JPG settings in RAW files to begin from scratch? Thank you so very much for your quick response!

Unless you need immediate access to the JPEG files for posting to the web or some other need there is no need to save RAW and JPEG together. DPP4 will quickly create the JPEGs.

DPP4 renders the images you captured using the in-camera settings you selected. They are not "JPEG settings", they are the settings you told the camera to apply. They are applied to the sensor data and embedded in the EXIF data; doesn't matter if you selected RAW or JPEG for file saving. If you don't want any in-camera processing you need to de-select any options you enabled like Lens Corrections, Clarity, etc.

If you don't want any Picture Style adjustments select the Neutral PS.

I set the camera to save both raw and JPEG. The JPG file is fine for a preview.
Rawtherapee free software will allow one to see the raw data by choosing "none" as the demosaic algorthim.

Hello, Mike!

DPP 4 will allow you to view your Raw files without most of the camera settings (see attached screen shot). Click "Tools ==> Preferences".

Although I only shoot Raw, my preference is to edit them in DPP with the adjustments that I made while shooting. I will turn camera adjustments off, in DPP, when testing lenses and cameras just to see how poorly they perform without adjustments, mostly noise and sharpness. I know some of my consumer lenses need correction to a certain extent, so I turn that off in camera, and mess with it in DPP.
