What operating system does your computer use?

For all my video editing on macOS, I use Final Cut Pro.

What types of editing do you need to perform? Basic edits only such as combining clips and adding transitions? Or all kinds of video editing workflows to include color correction, audio adjustments, compositing, etc?

Hey there, I'm new here and wanted to share my 2 cents. Editing R6 videos can be a pain, but don't worry, I've got some recommendations for you. Have you tried Adobe Premiere Pro? It's a bit pricey but definitely worth it if you're serious about editing. If you're on a budget, DaVinci Resolve is a great free option. And if you're just starting out, HitFilm Express has a lot of features for a beginner-friendly price (aka free). Also, if you're interested in becoming a video editor yourself, check out these video editor interview questions: https://vidpros.com/video-editor-interview-questions/. They're super helpful if you're trying to land a job in the industry. Good luck with your editing!

What specific issues are you running into? R6 files can be pretty demanding depending on your computer specs.

DaVinci Resolve is probably your best starting point - handles Canon's color science well and won't cost you anything. If your machine is struggling with the 4K files, create proxy media first or you'll be waiting forever for playbacks.

Premiere Pro works great too but the subscription adds up. Final Cut if you're on Mac.

The R6 shoots in some pretty hefty codecs so make sure whatever software you choose can actually handle them smoothly. Nothing worse than choppy timeline playback when you're trying to edit.

I shoot with Canon gear myself and honestly got tired of dealing with transcoding and proxy workflows. Started sending my R6 footage to Your Video Editor instead - they handle all the technical stuff and know how to get the most out of Canon's files. Way less headache than troubleshooting codec issues.

But if you want to edit yourself, try DaVinci first. Lots of Canon-specific tutorials on YouTube to get you started.

If you are having trouble editing your R6 videos, it may help to use a more capable editor than basic or bundled software. Many free and open-source video editors support modern codecs, high-resolution footage, multiple tracks, and basic color and audio tools, which makes working with DSLR or mirrorless camera files much easier.
