Thank you. I will be using RAW but I was under the impression after reading the Canon manual on DPP that you can edit JPG. Do you know what panel I need to access to edit JPG? Thank you so very much!

Hi all,

I downloaded the software from the Canon website and entered my serial number for my camera. Software downloaded and no issues. However, when I try to edit an image the sliders are not active. I select the image and click on the Edit button and I'm ok. But I am unable to edit the image. This is a JPG image. Will be RAW in the future. Does anyone have any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Thanks!

Mike

DPP is really designed for working with RAW images, if you have a JPG many of the sliders on the initial basic image adjustment panel are not usable and will be inactive.

Greetings ,

Jpegs have limited editing capability. You are limited to basic things like contrast, brightness, sizing, etc. This is not a limitation of the software, it's due to the file type. Shoot in RAW and you'll have complete control. Once you understand post processing better, you'll be able to create recipes and apply them to individual or batches of images. You can also convert and save these files as jpegs individually or as batches after editing them to your liking.

We can help along the way if you have questions 🙂.

This is what I see in DPP when working with a JPG.

Across the top of the panel on the right, you will see the text Tool palette this is where you can find the 9 different tool panels that are available. Many of them can be used with JPG images. The lens correction and basic image adjustment panels are the two that are significantly limited when working with JPG images. This is because the JPG is a processed file, and used the camera settings at the time the photo was captured. In a RAW image the camera settings are only used to show the preview, but can be changed in DPP after, eg white balance, picture style etc.
