I have not used any tethering with my Mac, so the following is just a guess... are you saving the images to an internal drive or external? I'm wondering if the software has the proper permissions set up to be able to save to external/removable volumes.

In System Settings, select Privacy & Security, then on the right-hand list, select Files & Folders and find the various software items (click on the disclosure triangle next to the software title to see details).

e.g. on my Mac for Lightroom Classic, I have the following all enabled:

Desktop Folder

Documents Folder

Downloads Folder

Removable Volumes

Another category to check in Privacy & Security would be Full Disk Access

Hi,

I'm using a R6 mark ii, with a tether tools cable and a MacBook Pro M1 (Sequoia 15.4.1).

My goal is to instantly see the photos I take on my MacBook. I tried with Capture One and Lightroom. Basically, my camera is correctly linked, as I can change settings (ISO, etc...), trigger and take care pictures from the Mac. However, the pictures I take are not saved in the destination folder.

I switched to EOS Utility 3, and the same thing happened: I can trigger pictures, change settings, and get the live view, but whenever I take a picture, it is not save in the folder, or anywhere.

EOS Utility is setup to save pictures in both the SD card and the Mac:

I already tried uninstalling/reinstalling the EOS Utility software (v 3.18.41). The camera firmware is up to date. I don't think there is any issue with my tether cable since I can remotely trigger the camera.

Maybe the Mac is restricting the pictures to be saved... Or the camera needs some additional/magical setup.

Desperation is starting to take over. Any advice helping to solve this mystery will be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance

I just tested with my 1D X Mark III. Sequoia 15.4.1. EOSU3 3.19.0.12. DPP4 is my linked software in EOSU3.

Worked:

Also tried with LrC. Also worked.

EOSU3 has full folder and file access. LrC has authorizations in both full disc and folder and files. (EOSU3 doesn't appear in full disk access).

Hi John,

I installed DPP4 and linked it to EOSU3, and I gave full disc access to EOSU3, LrC and DPP4. I trigger the camera from my Mac, but the destination folder remains empty.

Could there be an issue with the tether cable (very unlikely since it's an official one)?

Thanks

If you go to Image Capture app do you see what is on your camera internal storage card? If so the cable is not the problem.

Yes, I can see all the images that are in the SD card. I might have to try on a different PC to make sure the issue doesn't come from my Mac.

Thanks,

With the information from your post and screenshot, I can see that the connection is working, and you have chosen to put the images in a folder called "SHOOT", plus your camera is set to save RAW + JPG to the card, and JPG only to the computer.

This leaves me with two questions:

What is the path to the SHOOT folder?

for example on my computer it would be Macintosh HD / Users / brianworley / Pictures / SHOOT

Depending on the settings in EOS Utility it may create additional sub folders if you have configured it do that by date or similar.

Are you looking for the RAW images or the JPGs, you will only get JPGs on your computer with this configuration?

I double checked the path to the SHOOT folder and I confirm it was correctly set in EOSU3. Regarding the image format, I tried all the different options to check if any format would be saved, but nothing changed.

Given that we filtered out the cable as the root cause, I tried tethering the camera to a different computer (PC, Windows 10): same result, I can trigger the camera from EOSU3, but the pictures are not saved in the destination folder.

I concluded that the issue was coming from the camera. I went through the camera User Guide, and figured I might as well 'Reset communication settings':

And it worked! Both with LrC and EOSU3.

I had never gone through these settings before, so I assume the camera comes with some original communication presettings when you buy it.

Mistery solved 😺
