Keep Canon Connect app running for automatic connection to EOS R6 Mark II?

Hi guys,

I hope I am writing in the correct place...

I have a R6 MK2 and an Pixel 8 smartphone connected and set to automatically connect.

I've noticed that if I dont start manually the Camera Connect app, then my camera does not connect to the app and images are not geo-tagged. Once I start the app the camera automatically connects and the NO-GPS indication stops blinking. This is annoying because many times I don't notice its off while taking pictures.

The app on my phone has all the permissions required, and has no restrictions whatsoever.

How can I have the camera connect automatically to my phone, without requiring me to manually open the app, just as my headphones or car bluetooth does? Anyone else has this problem?

Thanks

Attached are a couple of screenshots of the app info

Welcome to the Community. To answer your question, you don’t want to do that, which is probably why it does not do it automatically. Unlike your camera, the sharing of data between your headphones and car isn’t bidirectional.

For security reasons, you really don;t want apps launching because your phone has connected to another device. For example, it is a best practice to disable your mobile device from automatically connecting to any available Wi-Fi it can find. You want to enable the setting that causes the phone to ask for your permission be it connects to a new network.

Bluetooth is not all that different. When you pair your with a new Bluetooth device, both devices will ask you for permission to connect. The new device should then appear in your list of devices currently connected. Your camera should be one of hem, even though Canon Connect is not running. Do you I see it?

The best practice I described above regarding disabling your mobile device from connecting to new networks without your permission also applies to your camera. If you are not actively using the wireless communications in your camera, then you should disable them. Enabling Airplance Mode is insufficient, and not intended to be a substitute for disabling communications.

I agree, this is good advice. These are the security controls I have in place on my pixel 8. I've always used these options whether I'm on iOS or Android. The last thing you want is for your mobile device to be connecting to rogue broadcasts just because you are within range.

The app has a handy reconnect button that you can use after you've enabled Wireless or Bluetooth on the camera. These features which are useful in many cases do draw additional power, so there's no need to keep them on if you're not actively using them

Hi guys!
First - thank you very much for your quick and elaborate reply! I really appreciate it!

I generally agree with what you wrote (and I do use the best practices for my phone as mentioned), however my problem still stands:

I always want my camera to geotag every one of my photos, and I don't want to manually turn on the bluetooth on and off on my camera setting whenever I turn it on, nor have to manually open the app on my phone.

I am really frustrated - cant this process be streamlined???

For example with my previous 6DMK2 I had the GPS on at all times, and whenever I turned my camera it found its location and added the geotagging. Didnt have to think about it...

Thanks a lot again 🙂

1. I do not have my phone connected to any esoteric available WIFI or Bluetooth.

2. I do have the camera in my Bluetooth "Saved devices" list.
