Incorporates support for frame rates of 23.98fps/24.00fps when using the LP-E6NH and LP-E6N battery.
The Wi-Fi connection status is now identifiable by the color of the [FTP Transfer Icon].
Adds [Protect Images] and [Rating] during FTP Transfer.
Adds the ability to change [Custom Shooting Mode] while writing images to the media (BUSY).
Fixes an issue in which the camera may become inoperable if a lens that does not communicate with the camera is attached when repeatedly shooting while using HDMI output.
Fixes an issue in which the camera may become inoperable if an image is cropped while other images are being transferred to an FTP server.
Fixes an issue in which Err70 may occur when using an application software such as Camera Connect, and the load on the smartphone increases.
Fixes an issue in which image stabilization may become unstable in movie mode when panning diagonally while using some stabilization rigs (such as monopod or handheld rigs).
Fixes an issue in which all images may not be copied when copying multiple selected images in the camera.
Fixes an issue in which another manufacturer devices (such as strobe or remote camera trigger) may work during pre-continuous shooting.
Fixes an issue that may, immediately after shooting, cause the screen to take a long time to turn off when using a button that has been assigned the “Screen off” function.
Fixes an issue in which Look File settings may apply to multiple custom picture files.
Fixes an issue in which the AF frame movement may not be smooth when several shooting information items are displayed and the multi-controller is operated.

I installed the new firmware and tried using LP-E6NH batteries in my battery grip. When powering up, I get the censor cleaning message, then a black screen. It doesn't look like the update fixed the battery issue for me.

Interesting that you brought this up. The firmware was initially released on the Canon Hong Kong website and through Canon connect... It was then made available on the Canon USA website. However, I don't see it there now. It is still available on the Canon Hong Kong website however.

The 1.0.2 firmware update was pushed to me via the Camera Connect app but would not install (get "Failed to transfer the firmware." message). I just tried to find V1.0.2 on the R5 Mark ii downloads page but couldn't find either.

Correct, it isn't there (12/10/24). I downloaded it from the Canon U.S.A. support site for the R5 II on the date I indicated in my previous post. Now it's mysteriously unavailable. IIRC, fw 1.8.0 for the R5 was quickly pulled and replaced with 1.8.1. Who knows what they are up to? 🤔

I have it in my downloads directory, but haven't installed it. I always wait a while to update, especially if the fw doesn't correct or add anything that I'm concerned with.

Hi chrishoesel,

I double checked the product page for the EOS R5 Mark II and the firmware is listed. The firmware can be downloaded HERE. Once you are on the web page click on the Software & Drivers button and it is listed in the recommended section.

If you still aren't seeing the firmware download it would be good to double check the device you are viewing the page on. The website automatically detects the operating system of the device you view the web page on, and if the device can't do the firmware update it wouldn't be listed. We would recommend viewing the page on a Windows or Apple computer with more recent operating systems.

The Hong Kong file refused to install since the camera issued an error that said the Firmware update 1.0.2 (from the Hong Kong site listed above) was older than the firmware on the camera (1.0.1)

No big deal. Now I see that it is listed on 12/12/2024 in the USA products page.

I have downloaded the 1.0.2 firmware, but when I try and update, either through the utility or via the SD card, it states I cannot downgrade the firmware. I have 1.0.1 installed currently. Anyone know how to resolve this?

Remove the other card and try again. At least for many users, including me, the update succeeds only when the card that doesn't have the firmware update file is removed from the camera.

Hi Larry,

Greetings. This is a very good point. The old upgrade instructions, at least for my camera (R5 C) specified that you had to use the SD card for firmware upgrades. While it didn't say to remove the second card, most did which ensured the camera was reading the firmware file correctly.

The R5 mkII's instructions no longer state that. It doesn't specify a card type or say which has to be used. I've seen posts from others on various sites who have used their CF ExpressB card for the update successfully. Slowly things are changing since (for example), the R1 has two CF ExpressB slots.

Typically, when the "firmware could not be downgraded" error message displays. It's because an older version of firmware exists in the root of the card the camera is attempting to read from.

In this case, I would look at both of my cards individually and see if v1.0.1 exists on one of the cards. Formatting that card or removing the card that contains the older update should work.

If this is happening with Canon Connect, the version that is being downloaded to the card should be verified. Hopefully this will help others if they're experiencing this issue.

Two things. First, for some reason, Canon USA did not have the firmware for all the OS's posted. I am on Windows 11 x64. I changed the selection to Windows 10 (not x64) and found the ZIP file and downloaded it just fine.

However when I tried to install it, my camera also said this firmware was older than the 1.0.1 currently installed. Very odd.

That did it, thanks! It's an odd requirement, but Canon should put this into their firmware update instructions! The current English PDF included says nothing about using just one card.
