You can make the WiFi connection more stable if you connect the camera and computer to a WiFi access point rather than use the camera to create a network point to connect your computer to. RAW images will take some time to transfer over WiFI, so I often set the camera to RAW + small JPG and then only send the JPG to the computer as a quick preview. Both RAW + JPG are then copied from the cards after the shoot.

In EOS Utility there you can select manual focus from the main window, but this does not allow the focus buttons to be used, you have to also remove the check mark from Preview AF.

In the screenshots below you can see the AF/MF remote switch has been set to MF, but with Preview AF still active the focus buttons are not active.

However when Preview Af is disabled you can then operate the focus buttons.

Lastly I found that you can leave the camera in AF, and with Preview AF disabled then the focus buttons are active, however you might find the camera refocuses when the shutter is pressed.

EOS Utility 3 Focus Greyed Out & Slow Wireless Connection on R10 - Need Help!

Hi,
I’m using a Canon R10 with a Sigma 18-50mm lens to shoot small products like jewelry. I connected it to my computer using EOS Utility 3 via Wi-Fi (I first tried using my iPhone USB-C cable, but it didn’t work, and a message said the connection failed. I’ve now ordered a Canon USB-C cable.)

The problem is:

The focus option is greyed out in EOS Utility 3, and I can’t adjust the focus remotely.

The wireless connection is very slow and laggy. Is this normal for Wi-Fi connections?

Is this a camera issue, a lens issue, or just a limitation of EOS Utility 3? Would using a USB cable solve the speed and focus issues? Any tips or solutions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance for your help!
