Canon R3 Raw files not working anymore with Apple Photos

Hello community!

After nearly 2 years of usage without any problem, my R3 RAW files do not work anymore in Apple Photos (since July 2024)

I have tried downloading the files on my MacBookPro (Sonoma) and Iphone, the files are imported but do not show on preview and cannot be open by Photos.

Any possible solution?

All my photos from the R3 that were in Apple Photos and icloud are now uneditable.

I started having this problem at the end of June.

Photos of the R5 I don't have this problem

For me this problem is very serious. I don't have any problems with Adobe programmes. I've already called Apple support but they haven't done anything yet. This kind of problem in a company like Apple is unfortunate.

Apple RAW support has been going downhill since Aperture. I think it would be wise to not depend on them, and have a backup plan for the future.

It's mysterious, since most people report (but they usually do!) that they did nothing to cause the support to break.

Hello as well. I am having the same issue with my Canon R3 Raw files. Has any one found a solution, or is an update coming. I have the issue in my both my Apple computers. iMac and Mac book pro. Both had the recent updates installed to Sonoma 14.6.1. Did not correct the problem. Canon R3 has lasted update to version 1.7.1

Any input is appreciated

Thanks for your input. From what I have been told by Apple support the more people that voice a problem with this same issue the more likely it will be looked into.

Update to Canon CR3 Raw Files not working in Apple Photos app from Canon R3. On 8/14/2024 I updated the Photomator app. I now can work with Canon CR3 Raw files in both Photomator and Apple Photos. Not sure if this is a coincidence. I did not update the Photos app beyond Sonoma 14.6.1

Update 8/16/24 - I've just updated to Sonoma 14.6.1 and this has fixed all of my workflow issues with Canon CR3 Raw files and Apple Photos. I don't edit in Photos but all previously affected files (e.g. any files that were exported to folders after the issues began were showing as Preview icons) are now showing as image thumbnails. Uploading CR3 Raw files to Photos is also working fine.

If you update the OS, you update Photos. You can't choose *not* to update it!

I am now suddenly getting this problem with Mac OS Tahoe 26.3 and R5 Mark II CR3. MacOS Photos does not show the photo and cannot edit either. I have had my R5 Mark II for about 8 months now and no problem. This just started happening even before I updated the camera to Version 1.2.0. Thoughts?
The iPad version of Canon DPP needs a monthly subscription to export 😞
