Latest manuals for DPP and R-series bodies unavailable.

Hello folks,

Trying to download latest manuals for both Digital Photo Pro SW and camera body. The download page presents a link to the online HTML version(s) as well as a link to "Download Software" which just loops back to support pages.

The online version is fine if I am sitting at my desktop doing homework. When I am in the field, however, i really need a local version as I do not always have Internet access, to say nothing of high speed.

Really need a "portable" version I can access offline. This capability seems to have disappeared some months ago. Can anyone offer a solution here?

The current version of the Digital Photo Professional 4 manual is only available in HTML format. If you need a link to that manual it is available HERE. We recommend saving the manual page as a favorite in your web browser so you can reference it more quickly.

PDF versions of R series cameras are available. To send a link to the PDF version of your manual we would need to know what model you have.

For DPP, the manual seems to be online only. But I guess I don't know why you would need to consult it in the field...?

For the camera body, check the support page. Bummer to hear the DPP manual is not available offline. I frequently catch up on my reading offline and don't always have a good data connection.

Once you've done that, you'll see your My Canon Account becomes a centralized repository for all of the most up-to-date software and manuals that pertain only to your Canon equipment. While I am never actually using DPP away from my desktop, I am frequently offline when I am catching up on my reading.

I do now see the manual for the R body. Latest version appears to be from DEC 2019.

YES! EXACTLY!! That's the entire point, isn't it? Why does everyone assume everyone has access to high-speed internet 24/7? Or why would anyone possible want to READ a manual, oh, say, maybe from an iPad or such to familiarize oneself with what is available so that one day, when you want to do something, you can say, "Hmmmm... I read in the manual something about that..." and look it up?

My second point fully supporting your request is that, how such a big company like Canon can't put this IMMEDIATELY into a PDF format for download? What is this, a start up or something? What's so complicated or resource-demanding?

Appreciate AtticusLake's information - absolutely, thank you - but from a consumer of Canon's products (as opposed to a consumer of AtticusLake's) it should be a no brainer, easily findable and downloadable from a central repository immediately upon release of any updates/upgrades. This is a technology-driven company and product, and anything less (or slower) is like when I was a kid writing to Battle Creek Michigan and enclosing boxtops for my toy... that stereotypical 1950s "communication" died in the 70s.... Canon should get with the times...

One would also think a company like Canon could be able to make apps that actually work - I speak of the "CameraConnect" app that never works - but I guess that's another topic...

The R Advanced User Guide is from the Canadian site. I expect that being a much larger country it is not assumed that we all have internet access. Should be exactly the same, except it may say sorry a lot or the odd `Eh`!

This is likely to call a spade a bl00dy shovel but otherwise...
Both should give you PDF access to download

FWIW, I use the Chrome browser and it has a PDF extension, which I assume other browsers do as well. I just went (7/4/24) to the Canon U.S.A. support site for the EOS R and clicked "View" for the EOS R "Advanced Users Guide" and it popped right open in my browser. With the extension, there is a download option so you can get the PDF to view on your system when off-line.

Apparently, Canon has done away with the HTML only manual for this camera unless they have some sort of way to determine if you have a PDF reader available.

I do have the free Acrobat Reader installed and that may well be why I can open/download PDF manuals, which I have loads of for reference material. You need a PDF reader anyway, IMO, and Adobe's free reader is as good as any 🙂

Thanks for the link, and appreciate the resurrection! Seems in Canada you are also seeing the same thing as we are in the US. The PDF is for DPP 4.15.0 while they are shipping 4.18.10, for which they still offer only the HTML manual.

We wait in vain.

Yup, eventually found the PDF for the body. This helps keep me out of the dark while in the field. Would be nice to have the SW manual as well.
