EOS R6 & R7 not recognized by EOS Utility

I can download pictures from my R6 and R&7 bodies to my computer using a card reader but when I try to use the supplied cable connector I get a "Camera not recognized" message on my screen. What can I do to fix this? I also have an Eos Utility icon on my desktop but it does not open when double clicked, could these be related? Thank you in advance for any help with this.

Regards,

Tom Hanna

Welcome.

We generally recommend using a card reader rather than connecting a camera.

But, if you want to go that route: 1. what computer operating system? 2. are you using the cable that came with the camera? 3. if not, is it a data cable? 4. if a Mac computer have you authorized USB connections? 5. If the EOSU is not opening have you tried downloading and reinstalling? 6. does anything happen when you double click the EOSU icon, like a welcome screen?

Tom,

Click on the EOS Utility program.

Do you see a black screen with an icon of a camera and and an icon of a computer connected by a straigh line?

Plug one end of the cable into the USB port on your camera.

Plug the other end into a USB port on your computer.

Turn on your camera.

They should connect and you are given a couple of options like remote shooting or downloading pictures from your camera to the computer.

Steve Thomas

I used a card reader at first but discovered the card slot on my old Dell laptop...after a few years. My Lenova laptop has a card slot. I insert the card and follow the prompts. IMO, the more gadgets you have between the card and the computer memory, the more that can go wrong.

On my desktop I have an icon of a camera with a computer in front of it but no straight line. I do what you suggest, plug into the camera and computer then turn on the camera and I get a notice saying "camera not recognized", that's it. When I double click the EOS Utility icon I get nothing so I suspect that's the culprit. Your thoughts?

Thanks, Tom

Tom,

At this stage, I think I would do as John suggested and uninstall and delete the copy of EOS Utility that you currently have on your computer, and download a new version.

You can find EOS Utility here:

https://www.usa.canon.com/support/eos-utilities

The drivers etc. seem to be unique to your camera and the operating system of your computer.

What kind of computer are you using?

I tried to look at the R6, and the Canon website immediately knew that I was using an Android tablet and would not let me proceed.

So, it may be a matter of downloading the correct version of EOS Utility and the computer you are using.

Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.p

Steve Thomas

One final question, it appears that I have multiple EOS utilities on my computer: Utility, Utility2, Utility3. Should I delete them all and start from scratch? This may come from the fact that I have the R 5,6 and 7 (one of which I need to sell). I usually just use a card reader with no issues but thought I'd try this other method out. thanks for the help...Tom

You can run EOSU3 directly. EOSU2 doesn’t support your cameras. EOSU plain is the startup screen. I always just use EOSU 3.
