Agreed, I just got the 6D and would really like to be able to use my Nokia 920 with Windows Phone 8 to control it.

I really like the deafening silence that we are getting on this thread from anyone at Canon! 😞

Could someone from Canon Please respond in one of three ways:

1. It's in the works and should be out in the near future

2. It's currently being considered, but is not currently being worked on

3. There are no current plans to develop a EOS Remote app for Windows Phone 8

Obviously, the answer I want to hear is the first option that I gave, but whatever the answer is it would be at least nice to know.

Their answer

Thank you for your interest in seeing a Windows mobile version of our EOS software.
I'm not sure if or when we will have Windows mobile support. Right now, that is not an operating system that we support, but that might change over time. We do appreciate your feedback on the matter.
Like the rest of the technicians here at Canon technical support, I don't learn of the new software options we will offer until around when we make the announcement to the world, so I really don't know know what is coming next.
Let us know if you have any other questions, and thanks again for choosing Canon.

Thanks Wjill for posting the feedback from Canon Technical Support! Unfortunately, it sounds like the person that you talked to doesn't really have any idea (I'm not suprised. I wouldn't expect someone in tech support to know). We really need to hear from someone in the development/engineering side of the company.

Thank you all for your interest in Canon’s Mobile Apps! We’re constantly looking to improve and update our software, however at this time we’re not planning on developing a Windows Phone 8 App.

Bummer!! I hope that Canon reconsiders as I really do think that Windows Phone 8 is starting to gain traction in the marketplace.

Yeah, really a bummer. The other question would be as there is no app planned directly from Canon's side, would there be any support for a third-party app? I would love to develop an app for that, however without knowing any interfaces nor API, it does not seem to be possible for now...

I hope to see this soon. Note to the poster from Canon and anyone else reading this that Windows Mobile is not the same as Windows Phone. WM is old and has an almost irrelevant decreasing market share. WP on the other hand has a small but growing market share.

I am a Windows Phone developer. I know there are some Application Programming Interfaces available from Canon, and I wonder if third party devs could potentially build a remote app. I will look into it further tommorow and report back.

Dang, I too registered just to indicate that this is a feature we would love supported on Windows Phone as well. This was a feature I was looking forward to but now disappointed to see its not supported on the phone I use. In fact this is one of the reasons I picked 6d over d600 😞

Microsoft released Developer package so dev can easily port their app from Android/iOS platform into Window. Hope someone in Canon shows some care.

Well, add me to the list.

I have Windows Phone 8 and intend to stick with it, plus I am a long-time Canon-using professional who would love and expect Canon to port their remote app and any other smart phone applications to Windows Phone 8, plus later versions. Yes IOS and Android are bigger markets, but, after using and really liking my Nokia 920 for 6 months, I am quite convinced that Windows Phone 8 will do nothing but gain market share. Doing the small job of porting existing software should be a good investment for Canon and a big help for thousands of their serious customers. Do it soon, please.

I too have just registered to say that I would be more inclined to buy a Canon 6D if the EOS software were available for Windows phone 8.

But I don't suppose that we are enough voices to make it worthwhile for Canon to develop a Windows phone version.

For the right price I would pay for a third party app.

Well, add me to the list of WP8 (Lumia 920) users who would like the Canon EOS Remote ported to my choice of mobile operating system. This can't exactly be a Herculean feat for Canon's software team, but I do understand their possible skepticism about the size of the market. Yes, we're not a very big crowd, but we're groowing in number. Plus, we're good customers and not as well served by other apps connected to other companies' camera systems; we'd likely go to, or stick with, Canon if they threw us WP8 people a crumb with EOS Remote. Think about it.
