Do you need to have a battery in the EOS R3 when powering it with a Canon-verified USB C PD charger?

I'm planning to purchase an R3 and am trying to understand how powering/charging works. I've been shooting with dSLRs and mirrorless cameras will be a new game for me. I searched through the manual, but didn't find the answer.

p.s. I will be purchasing Canon-verified chargers and power banks.

Yes, a battery must be present when using a USB-C PD.
