canon lp-e17 charger blinking

I purchased a new Canon SL3 camera in January 2023. I plugged the battery charger into the wall socket before I went to bed and when I woke up the light on the charger was blinkling. I tried other wall outlets and even a surge protector, but the light continues to blink. Is there a fix for this? I don't know if I got stuck with a lemon charger, and I'm starting to worry about the camera, which I have not been able to use yet. Is this a common occurrence for this type of charger, LP-E17?

I would check to see if the battery is fully charged first. You could have a defective battery. You can test this by installing the battery in the camera. The camera will display the current battery charge on the rear LCD screen.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried what you suggested, recieved message to replace battery. So, either the battery charger or the battery is defective. Hard to believe that a new camera would come with defective charger or battery. I would think that every component would be checked before being packaged and made available for sell.

Since the camera is new you should be able to exchange it for a new one.
