There’s no question that consumers have to navigate a widespread counterfeit battery problem. So, why doesn’t Canon allow consumers to register batteries that have serial numbers, and throw up a red flag when the serial is bogus? This won’t solve the problem entirely, but it will go a long way. There could also be a PIN from each battery to enter. This at great benefit to consumers and very low cost to Canon, probably offset by selling more authentic batteries.

Greetings,

This is a big problem for the storage industry (has been for some time now), Although counterfeit merchandise can appear anywhere, we recommend that you purchase from a Canon authorized dealer. While this doesn't guarantee authenticity, it greatly improves your odds of getting authentic gear. Canon embeds a battery's serial number on the chip inside the battery. If they printed it on the battery itself, it could be more easily duplicated. Most body's allow you to register up to 4 batteries to a body. Battery decoding technology has also become very good making it even easier for these types of products to be faked. You can leave product requests and [+]Feedback on the Canon USA homepage . https://www.usa.canon.com/
