Thank you for the reply.

While doing astrophotography I do not use my standard camera batteries. So, while continuing looking for an alternate power source for my DSLR after my post, I found a solution using a USB C PD for my camera. I even have a battery for my electric heated jacket that will power the camera using this device.

I found on Amazon a way to power my DSLR via a USB C plug. I can eliminate the battery brick connection that plugs into a 110v electrical outlet. You can get cigarette plug power sources that have the female Type C USB plug; however, a cigarette Type C PD plug needs to be a PD30W.

I previously purchased this 12v power hub that has one area for USB type plug ins with all four USB plugs complying with the PD requirement.

. I am making a 12v Marine Battery power station for my setup. One day I might go to a remote site that will not let me use my generator at night.

Two reviewers’ comments on the camera power device cable;

One important note is that it requires a USB-C power source that supports Power Delivery (PD). The system draws around 13W of power during use, so a standard 5V USB output is insufficient—using a proper PD-capable AC adapter or power bank is necessary for reliable operation.

Make sure to plug it into a non-data usb c port.

Is there a way to use a 12V cigarette plug to power the DC Coupler DR E6? I have looked online for several hours and cannot find a DC to DC converter that will reduce the 12v down to 8V 3A. It would be nice to have a power source to use a 12V battery connection. My DC to AC converter when connected to my 12V marine battery really drains the battery faster than cigarette power plugs do.

It sounds like you want to operate from your car. This is a little on the clunky side but a 100 watt inverter in the cigarette lighter will give AC power and then the appropriate wall wort will give the DC power you desire. This should be enough to run a DSLR or mirrorless camera. Anything more than that will require a larger inverter.

Greetings,

Not sure which camera you are using? For USB-C PD it's safe to go with a device rated at 9v/3A and 45w (minimum). Plus all that's been discussed. Cable must be PD rated, and so forth. This will future proof you for the foreseeable future. This works on my R5 C which is one of the more power hungry bodys, and allows 8k 60p with all lens features. All you need is a standard battery in the camera.

I am using the Canon EOS 60Da for astrophotography. The Amazon USB C PD rated cable, I am researching, states it is for my camera. The standard battery for the 60Da is LP-E6N @ 7.2v and the DR-E6 (substitute battery blank) list 8v - 3A from the AC/DC converter. I have been using the DR-E6 connected to the AC Adapter AC-E6 for a power source during astrophotography sessions for years. But I want to convert to using DC power via 12v cigarette plugs, that have USB power/charging plugs and not use AC/DC converters connected to my 12v battery or power reducer type regulators that I have to adjust or make.
