Checked that site but didn't see manuals. Some interesting videos and a very persistent pop-up ad for a free 100 page ebook (book may be great but the ad is annoying). I bookmarked it to visit some of the videos later. She seems to be a big Canon advocate.

I don't see that the LP-E6P is required for my H+ mode. I just fired off two .5-ish second bursts of birds on my feeder and got 5 frames using electronic first curtain and 24 frames with electronic shutter - both seem to work fine with the LP-E6NH. Perhaps there is a limit to how many frames I can take, but I don't use the shutter release like a movie button personally. Just lots of super sharp song sparrow pics! (or might be female house finch I think that's a male in the background

I don't do video, only photos on my R6 Mark II. I saw Rick's post on the topic at https://community.usa.canon.com/t5/Video-Accessories/Totally-Awesome-Canon-What-Have-You-Done-LP-E6P-vs-LP-E6NH/td-p/497404 and am wondering if there is any compelling reason to switch to the new LP-E6P for a photo shooter. I have updated the firmware to support the newer battery but I'm thinking the continuous 6 amp output is only benefitting video shooters and I'm good-to-go for photography.

Probably the best thing to do is when you need to order new batteries order the LP-E6P. I use both in my R6mkii and they work fine. The reason I have both is that I also have a R5.

As far as getting more photos on the new battery I haven't counted. The LP-E6P does allows you to use the higher framerate in H+ and other advanced features.

On another note have you been to Nina Baileys website. She is a Canon trainer and has quite a number of manuals available for sale.

I got the compatibility backwards you need the latest firmware to run the new battery. Here are the battery specifications.

I don't think the 6NH batteries are being produced any longer. You may be able to find some retailers with older stock but 6P's are what's available for the most part. The higher continuous discharge rate of the 6P's will give longer video runtimes, and maximum performance for H+ during discharge. If you don't chimp often, use continuous AF and use the EVF, you will also be able to capture more frames overall. Certain accessories can also increase drain, but you still get longer run times in the majority of cases. Updated firmware is recommended if applicable.

Thanks Rick. I got used to the RP battery use so I'm a bit of a battery miser - screen on low brightness, turn the camera off whenever possible. When I usually use H and not H+ and then only in half-second bursts. That will change as I get the chance to shoot more birds, I'm sure. The 6NH has been more than enough for my day-long tourist shooting with an overnight recharge. I will be circulating the couple spares until all 3 likely start dying, hopefully, all at the same time and will convert them - if I don't a) keel over before they do, or b) (hopefully more likely than a)) decide I can't do without some new camera. By then, though even the 6Ps maybe be obsolete 🙂

Thanks Wadizzle. I saw that the LP-E6NH are officially discontinued, but mine work fine so I'm not planning on rushing out and replacing what I've got unless there is a great reason to do so. Something like they tend swell up and damage the camera or tend to catch on fire, or new firmware won't support them kind of thing. They are currently plentiful used but I've never thought of buying a used battery before. I'm guessing one might to well to get 50% of the battery life out of a battery that is 50% of new, so probably not a great value proposition.
