Hello,

I recently purchased a near-mint, low-mileage Canon 1Ds Mark III, which came with one Canon LP-E4 battery. As many of you know, these original LP-E4 and LP-E4N batteries have become extremely hard to find. While third-party options are widely available, both Canon and many forum members generally advise against using them due to potential warranty issues, reliability concerns, and safety risks. EZPassMA login

Canon LP-E19 battery compatibility with EOS-1Ds Mark III

I recently bought a near mint low milage 1Ds Mark III. It came with one Canon LP-E4 battery. These batteries are nearly non-existent. However there are plenty of third party batteries.

Most of us know how this forum feels about using third party batteries and Canon has also cautioned its customers against using them and use genuine Canon OEM batteries to avoid loss of warrant and possible personal injury.

I began my search for other batteries that might be compatible with my 1Ds Mark III. My research led me to B&H Photo. They sell LP-E19 for $180. At the bottom of the page, please see below, they list the following cameras that are compatible with the LP-E19.

If that wasn't enough I contacted Canon CPS for assistance and asked about the compatibility of the LP-E19, A very informative Tech support man, Craig, did some research into my question. He found that info in the manual for the 1Dx Mark II which can be found on that camera's support page. At the bottom of page 35 it states the LP-E19 is compatible with cameras that used the LP-E4/LP-E4N, nine of them.

So if you buy an older DLSR that uses the LP-E4/LP-E4N batteries will not be an issue.

You're welcome.
