I ordered a third party eyecup from Amazon for the Canon R6 Mark II that I recently purchased from B&H Photo.

I'm wondering if it is actually not possible to unscrew the eyecup on the Canon R6 Mark II? The screws on the eyecup seem to be on really tight or maybe even glued in. Do I need to request assistance from a Canon approved repair shop to get this done? Or is it actually best that I not pursue replacing it at all? I prefer a longer eyecup to protect my eyes from the sun, but I can do without if I risk damaging my new camera.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello CanonFanJK,

Yes those tiny screws are tight! I changed mine on three bodies myself and prefer the replacement. I used a small jewelers screwdriver and took my time.

Place a towel on the desk or table you are working on to give the camera stability and allow you to put some downward pressure on the body to remove the screws.

Using the right size Phillips head is key, to large or to small and you will strip the head

Point the camera with the back pointing to you. Use the towel to stabilize the body.

Applying downward pressure on the screwdriver with one hand and turning the screwdriver with the other slowly give it a twist. Once you break the titelock they use the screw will come out easily.

Thanks for your feedback! I ended up going to a local camera repair shop to help me. I was too scared to do the work myself seeing how stuck in there the screws were.

They are incredibly tight. Glad you got it resolved, I think you'll like the upgrade.

I just changed mine as well. And yeah, those screws are tight. The eye cup I bought included a tiny screwdriver and 4 extra screws (I can see how you could easily loose one!). Have to be careful not to cross thread them, making sure I had it perpendicular I turned the screw counter clockwise a little first until felt it “click”, then screwed it down until it was tight.

The photo shows the new one installed and the old one leaning against the box. Huge difference in both size and comfort. Much easier to look thru the view finder now.

Agreed, much better seal, eliminates light leak and if you have a larger nose....like me it stops it from pressing up against the back of the camera.
