Was my Canon R3 and R5 supposed to come with rubber covers for the hot shoe? Mine did not--or at least I don't remember seeing them in the box. If I can find them in a store, I guess it is advisable to buy the covers.

Hello, Zhaopian!

I agree with Rick. The R3 has one and it should have been in place fresh out of the box, at least all of the R cameras that I have with a multi-function shoe came with the cover installed.

Since the R5 has no multi-function shoe, it doesn't need one nor does it come with one. I suspect the connections in the newer multi-function shoe need more protection than the typical 5 pin of the R5, and other cameras without a multi-function shoe for that matter 🙂

Greetings,

The R3 comes with a rubber accessory cover.

https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/s/article/ART182095

Shop Canon Shoe Cover ER-SC3 | Canon U.S.A., Inc. https://share.google/mnBRuk0viokAQmiQB

The original R5 does not according to what's in the box. However, the cover above might fit it as well. There are also low cost inserts available that slide into the shoe.

https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/s/article/ART178276

My R5 C came with a insert that protects the MFS. The original R5 uses a standard hot shoe, but I could have sworn it came with the standard plastic insert. I've used mine in light rain and it was fine.
