I assume that selecting "no" lets the camera run with no battery info.

The point is, if you have a Canon battery, it is defective. If you have a non-Canon Battery, all bets are off.

It's telling you it's not a genuine Canon battery or an aftermarket that acts like one.

If the camera works okay, just say "No" and be happy. It will likely not display any battery info in Menus, but no big deal.

A genuine anon battery has the Canon/logo molded into it. But there are counterfeits out there.

Where did you buy the battery from? Is there any name on it? There is garbage on Amazon and ebay.

Some aftermarket brands are reliable....Watson and Wasabi are two. Kastar is pretty safe. Everything else.....who knows. Battery capacities are also lied about by the no-names.

If you want the safest bet, buy from a Canon-authorized dealer.
