Re: Adapter suitable for Sigma Lens to fit Canon EOS 800D?

A question like this would be better asked in the lens forum: https://community.usa.canon.com/t5/EF-RF-Lenses/bd-p/efandrflenses

But anyway: the issue is not whether the lens is Sigma or Canon; the issue is the lens mount. Your camera (EOS 800D) has an EF lens mount, and specifically the EF-S variant. You can see that in the specifications here: https://www.canon.co.uk/cameras/eos-800d/specifications/ (look down at the end: "Lenses: All EF and EF-S lenses").

Sigma make lenses for a variety of different lens mounts. However, since you were using those lenses with a Minolta camera, they are probably Minolta SR mount (if pre-autofocus), or Minolta A mount (if autofocus). So you want an adapter from one of those lens mounts to EF. Or it might be Minolta MD; I don't know much about Minolta gear.

Sadly, I think this is not possible. The flange distance on the Minolta lens mounts is too long to fit an adapter between the lens and an EF camera.

You might find an adapter to a camera with a shorter flange distance, like Canon R-series cameras, which use the RF lens mounts. However bear in mind:

the adapter must be compatible with the specific lens mount of your lens

if the lens is electronic, it won't work -- even if it physically fits, the electronic communications with the camera won't be compatible

If you want to know more about lens mounts, I wrote an article which might help: https://moonblink.info/MudLake/gear/lenses

Really appreciate your advice AtticusLake. Awesome article you wrote. It definitely had the EF lens mount on the sigma lens but I can see what you have brought up about all the other different components I wasn't aware of. Will keep an eye out for a canon long distance lens - just hope it is as good as the Sigma lens I had on my Minolta. Again, sincerely appreciate your guidance and time. Happy New Year.
