Greetings ,

I keep all of my gear in a dry cabinet at the house. I also own four or five bags and cases so I have options when I go somewhere. The dry cabinet is like a small wine fridge. It's about 3 and 1/2 ft tall and 2 ft deep. It wasn't super expensive.

https://community.usa.canon.com/t5/Camera-Accessories/Dry-Cabinet-Recommendations-Feedback-Appreciated/m-p/436990#M1793

No one ever replied to my thread but I am very happy with the Ruggard unit. Temperature and humidity controlled.

Need some help on a decision please.. I just started photography and I'm mainly into astrophotography. I do 99% of my shooting from our front deck. My question is, I have a 28-300 zoomed lens, extra wide angle lens and the kit lens that came with the camera. Which would be better to use in my situation since I really don't leave the house to take pics?

So I'm just starting out in photography and as of right now, I have 3 lenses. The kit lens, tameron 28-300 and a rokinon extra wide angle 10mm f2,8 lens. I'm really getting into astrophotography big time and don't really leave the house so I was wondering if I would just be better off with just the lens cases or should I buy a camera bag. Like I mentioned, I do ALOT of photography just here at the house, and maybe walk around our property. So... cases or bag?

They have smaller ones too. WxDxH 13.7 x 7.9 x 9.1" 8lbs. A little bit bigger than a toaster oven. Very safe way to store gear.

I shoot daily with multiple cameras and lenses, so I keep my lenses attached to the cameras that I prefer them on. When not in use, the cameras with lens, are either covered or in a camera bag (I have multiple bags). Lenses that I am not using are stored in a camera bag or in the cases that they came with. I primarily use "L" lenses, so the long lenses come with very nice cases, not hard shell, but very sturdy and the others come with a soft bag that has a hard shell bottom and close with a draw string. I put those little bags of moisture absorbing beads in all of my bags and cases.

Probably not the best way to keep my gear, but it is the most convenient and it's always ready to get a shot with minimal fuss and lens changing. It's just the way we have been doing it since the 80's and have had no problems with reliability. We did loose one 300mm prime to fungus, but that was used on a film SLR that my wife liked to use to shoot wildlife when we were fishing on the river.

Rick's cabinet sounds like an excellent idea and would provide some peace of mind, but we've had no problems over the years just storing in camera or lens cases and keeping our gear clean. I try to wipe my gear down after every use, but sometimes forget, just to bushed to fool with it, or eager to download and start editing the days shoot.
